Sustainability

It’s fair to say that Proper Productions are not Johnny-come-latelys when it comes to trying to make a difference. From 2005-2007 its managing director, Mark Ward, was production manager on Coldplay’s “Twisted Logic” tour when band and crew first began discussing carbon-positive touring.

It spurred Mark to become a founding partner of the Eco Action Partnership in 2009, one of the first industry groups to push for increased awareness and understanding of its environmental impact. They were engaged on many levels with the Department of Energy and Climate Change – the government department established under then prime minister Gordon Brown to lead the debate – and sustainability has been woven into Proper’s DNA ever since (even its office desks are upcycled).

During the pandemic, Proper worked closely with the Tour Production Group’s sustainability team – both to learn and to teach – and is currently engaged with a select group of industry leaders in the area of gold-standard carbon removals to create a trusted method of removing what cannot be reduced; to bring live events and tours to net zero – and beyond.
